"In memory of the soldiers of the Paris Army"
Arriving on the battlefield on the morning of 7 September 1914, General Drude's Zouaves had to replace the troops badly hit in the previous days, and their aim was to occupy Chambry.
The Four Roads Monument, erected at the request of General Gallieni, military governor of the entrenched camp of Paris, was built by soldiers of the Engineering Corps. It was inaugurated on 12 September 1915 to mark the first anniversary of the Battle of the Marne.
